Eeyore (named after the melancholic character from Winnie-the-Pooh) is a trio based in Zagreb, Croatia, formed earlier this year. They began performing live in May, sharing stages with Yöu, Hostija, O-Sixfemale, Guinea Freeze, Kijamet, and finally the screamo veterans Mališa Bahat. Their single "Pesticide" first appeared on the 'Gledaju nas kao ptice' compilation, released on July 10, followed two days later by their debut EP, is my ache known to god?

The EP consists of four tracks and runs for just under eight minutes. The production is raw and unpolished, fitting the urgency of a self-released debut.

"Roadside" opens with slow, somber guitar melodies accompanied by drums that gradually build tension before ear-piercing screams crash in, immediately establishing the EP's emotional weight.

"Strip Away" picks up the pace, creating a sense of desperate urgency that is reinforced by lines such as: "I'll cut off my fingers / For using them to write you letters / And peel off my eyelids / To never miss a moment again." The second half intensifies further as the shrieks are joined by deep growls, giving the song an even harsher emotional impact.

"Pesticide," the previously released single, begins with a solitary guitar line and spoken-word vocals lamenting, "Feeling so anxious and alone / I want to say I love you / But you didn't pick up the phone," before erupting into another burst of screamo. Between the chaos, brief mathy passages showcase the band's fluid songwriting and dynamic shifts.

Closing the EP, "boywithagun" follows a similar emotional trajectory. Sparse guitar lines and vulnerable vocals repeating "It becomes another game for me / Nobody came for me" create a lingering sense of isolation before the song abruptly explodes into a final blast-beat-driven outburst.

Despite its brief runtime, is my ache known to god? makes a convincing first impression. Eeyore balance moments of restraint with sudden emotional release, suggesting a young band already comfortable navigating the tension between vulnerability and aggression.

Eeyore (nazvan po melanholičnom magarcu iz Winnie the Pooh) je trio iz Zagreba, osnovan početkom ove godine. Prve nastupe imali su u maju, deleći binu sa bendovima Yöu, Hostija, O-Sixfemale, Guinea Freeze, Kijamet i na kraju screamo veteranima Mališa Bahat. Njihov singl „Pesticide“ prvi put se pojavio na kompilaciji Gledaju nas kao ptice, objavljenoj 10. jula, dok je dva dana kasnije usledio i debitantski EP is my ache known to god?

EP sadrži četiri pesme i traje nešto manje od osam minuta. Produkcija je sirova i neispeglana, što odgovara hitnosti jednog samostalno objavljenog debija.

„Roadside“ otvara izdanje sporim, sumornim gitarskim melodijama uz bubnjeve koji postepeno grade tenziju, pre nego što ih preseku prodorni krikovi i odmah uspostave emotivnu težinu čitavog EP-ja.

„Strip Away“ ubrzava tempo i stvara osećaj očajničke hitnosti, dodatno naglašene stihovima:

Druga polovina pesme dodatno pojačava intenzitet kada se visokim krikovima pridružuju duboki growl vokali, čineći emotivni udar još snažnijim.

„Pesticide“, prethodno objavljeni singl, počinje usamljenom gitarskom deonicom i spoken-word vokalima koji izgovaraju:

"Feeling so anxious and alone

I want to say I love you

But you didn't pick up the phone."

Nakon toga pesma ponovo eksplodira u nalet screama, dok kratki math-rock momenti između haosa pokazuju koliko bend vešto barata dinamikom i promenama u aranžmanima.

EP zatvara „boywithagun“, koji prati sličnu emotivnu putanju. Minimalističke gitare i ranjivi vokali koji ponavljaju:

"It becomes another game for me

Nobody came for me."

stvaraju dugotrajan osećaj usamljenosti, pre nego što pesma naglo eksplodira u završni blast beat klimaks.

Iako traje svega nekoliko minuta, is my ache known to god? ostavlja veoma ubedljiv prvi utisak. Eeyore uspešno balansiraju između suzdržanih trenutaka i iznenadnih emotivnih eksplozija, pokazujući da se već na svom debiju dobro snalaze u prostoru između ranjivosti i agresije.

Stranded in Dog City is a Slovenian screamo quartet that emerged from the remains of a hardcore band Dio Perkins. While the lineup stayed the same, the shift in sound came gradually, becoming fully realized with the release of their first demo tape - three tracks marking a clear transition toward a more emotionally driven approach.

Initially rooted in straightforward hardcore, the band began reshaping their identity as they grew more connected to the expressive and cathartic elements of screamo. This shift was heavily influenced by the rising presence of bands like Zbrucz within the regional scene, whose impact helped open space for a new wave of screamo acts in an environment previously dominated by hardcore, grind, and crust.

A defining moment came after attending a show in Plac (Ljubljana), featuring Zbrucz, Mališa Bahat, and Shizune - followed by their visit to Third Impact Fest in Modena. These experiences solidified their direction, pushing them further toward a more emotionally charged and dynamic sound.

While still active through their original project Dio Perkins, Stranded in Dog City serves as a more personal and expressive outlet, leaning into the intensity, vulnerability, and sonic range of modern European screamo.

Stranded in Dog City je slovenački screamo kvartet koji je nastao iz ostataka hardcore benda Dio Perkins. Iako je postava ostala ista, promena zvuka se odvijala postepeno, da bi bila u potpunosti zaokružena izdavanjem njihovog prvog demo izdanja — tri pesme koje jasno označavaju prelazak ka emotivnijem izrazu.

U početku ukorenjeni u klasičnom hardcore zvuku, bend je vremenom počeo da preoblikuje svoj identitet, sve više se povezujući sa ekspresivnim i katarzičnim elementima screama. Na ovu transformaciju značajno je uticao i rastući uticaj bendova poput Zbrucz na regionalnoj sceni, koji su otvorili prostor za novu generaciju screamo izvođača u okruženju koje je ranije bilo dominantno hardcore, grind i crust orijentisano.

Ključni trenutak dogodio se nakon koncerta u Plac-u (Ljubljana), gde su nastupali Zbrucz, Mališa Bahat i Shizune, kao i nakon njihovog odlaska na Third Impact Fest u Modeni. Ta iskustva su učvrstila njihov pravac i dodatno ih usmerila ka emotivno nabijenijem i dinamičnijem zvuku.

Iako su i dalje aktivni kroz svoj prvobitni bend Dio Perkins, Stranded in Dog City funkcioniše kao ličniji i izražajniji projekat, naglašavajući intenzitet, ranjivost i zvučni raspon savremenog evropskog screama.

WITH ENGINE HEART

With Engine Heart were a short-lived quintet from Celje, Slovenia, formed sometime between late 2006 and 2007. Their existence was brief but focused. They recorded a demo and a single EP titled This City Is Dead and These Words Are the Nail in the Coffin. During their short run, they toured with bands such as Elodea and Judith Krishun.

The aforementioned EP consists of two studio tracks alongside several live clips from their tour with Elodea, possibly featuring unreleased material available only through those recordings.

Musically, WEH operated within a post-rock–infused screamo framework, drawing clear parallels to bands like Funeral Diner, Kaospilot, and Yage. Their sound was passionate, raw, and somber - emotionally charged instrumentation paired with anguished, desperate vocals. Lyrically, they leaned toward social critique and anti-capitalist themes. The compositions allowed space to breathe, building atmosphere before collapsing into intensity.

Below are the band’s own interpretations of two songs:

Losing Sleep - 'This song talks about fighting boredom and monotony of everyday life. It seems like the environment we live in is designed to keep us occupied with things we don’t want to do, just to provide for our basic needs, leaving very little time and energy, to see the world around us for what it is and for the activities we long for. A perfect scheme to create a society for careless consumers.'

Michele Bernstein - 'In cities, everyone gets lost in the crowd. The transport tends to take one person’s individual interest and levels it down to a predetermined path. Marketing has been taking over every possible square centimeter of the surfaces, so we’re left in a jungle of over-saturated colors, mind-numbing one-liners.

Everything’s pretty much focused on turning a real person into a mindless being. The city center lies under a false pretense of happening, with pop culture events masking the city’s dead gray nature. It soon becomes nothing but a parade of spectacles. Keeping the mass alienated under an area of socialization. This is simply a wake-up call.'

With Engine Heart bio je kratkotrajni kvintet iz Celja, Slovenija, formiran negde između kraja 2006. i 2007. godine. Njihovo postojanje bilo je kratko, ali fokusirano. Snimili su demo i jedan EP pod nazivom This City Is Dead and These Words Are the Nail in the Coffin. Tokom tog perioda išli su na turneju sa bendovima poput Elodea i Judith Krishun.

Pomenuti EP sadrži dve studijske pesme uz nekoliko live snimaka sa turneje sa Elodeom, moguće uključujući i neobjavljen materijal dostupan isključivo kroz te snimke.

Muzički, WEH su se kretali u okviru screamo izraza sa snažnim post-rock uticajem, sa jasnim paralelama sa bendovima poput Funeral Diner, Kaospilot i Yage. Njihov zvuk bio je strastven, sirov i sumoran - emotivno nabijena instrumentacija uparena sa bolnim, očajničkim vokalima. Lirski su naginjali društvenoj kritici i antikapitalističkim temama. Kompozicije su ostavljale prostor za disanje, gradeći atmosferu pre nego što bi se urušile u intenzitet.

Savršena šema za stvaranje društva bezbrižnih potrošača.“

„U gradovima se svako izgubi u masi. Sistem nas usmerava tako da pojedinačni interes svodi na unapred određenu putanju. Marketing je preuzeo svaki mogući kvadratni centimetar površine, pa smo ostavljeni u džungli prezasićenih boja i zaglupljujućih slogana.

Sve je usmereno ka tome da se stvarna osoba pretvori u bezumnog pojedinca. Centar grada opstaje pod lažnim prividom dešavanja, gde pop-kulturni događaji maskiraju sivu, mrtvu prirodu grada. Ubrzo sve postaje samo parada spektakla, održavajući masu otuđenom pod prividom socijalizacije. Ovo je jednostavno poziv na buđenje.“

Eva Ras began the way most reckless and sincere projects do - by accident.

While in college, I started assembling leftover instrumentals into something new and named the project after a Serbian-Hungarian actress from the Black Wave. The name felt absurd. It stuck.

The earliest releases (2016 demo, two 5-way splits) were pure DIY collapse: GarageBand, Mixcraft drums, an acoustic guitar pushed into a dying microphone. They sounded exactly like that. Somehow, they circulated.

Eva Ras je počela onako kako većina nepromišljenih i iskrenih projekata počinje - slučajno.

Tokom studija sam počeo da sklapam preostale instrumentalne snimke u nešto novo i dao projektu ime po srpsko-mađarskoj glumici iz crnog talasa. Ime je delovalo apsurdno. Ostalo je.

Najranija izdanja (demo iz 2016, dva petostruka splita) bila su čisti DIY kolaps: GarageBand, Mixcraft bubnjevi, akustična gitara gurana u mikrofon na izdisaju. Zvučalo je tačno tako. Nekako je krenulo da kruži.

After switching to electric guitar and Logic Pro X, the 2017 self-titled EP followed - still lo-fi, still Orchid-obsessed, still structurally unstable, but intentional. Cheap programmed drums, no bass, harsh vocals. It was the project finding its shape.

Posle prelaska na električnu gitaru i Logic Pro X, usledio je istoimeni EP iz 2017. — i dalje lo-fi, i dalje opsednut Orchidom, i dalje strukturalno nestabilan, ali nameran. Jeftino programirani bubnjevi, bez basa, oštri vokali. Projekat je tada počeo da dobija oblik.

Live shows followed: MKC Kombinat, Fijuk Sajam, later Hali Gali’s Nightmare at Drugstore - where I performed alone, screaming over playback from an iPod Touch. It was chaotic, awkward, and unexpectedly effective. For the first time, Eva Ras felt real in front of people.

The full-length Proliferation of Broken Dreams came next, released through my now-defunct Confusion Specialist Records. Reception was split. Some praised the ferocity; others (correctly) criticized the production and sloppy execution. Both readings were fair.

Zatim dolazi album Proliferation of Broken Dreams, objavljen preko mog sada ugašenog Confusion Specialist Records-a. Reakcije su bile podeljene. Neki su hvalili ferocitet; drugi su (s pravom) kritikovali produkciju i aljkavu izvedbu. Obe interpretacije su bile tačne.

A turning point came with the double EP/Prekretnica dolazi sa duplim EP-jem:

 

This was the clearest version of Eva Ras: fast, suffocating screamo with no dead space. Tracks like “Dekonstrukcija Yugoviolence” finally matched what I’d been trying to express for years. Reviews reflected that - Maximum Rocknroll called it “exceptionally harsh,” and for once, the description fit.

Muerto Rico was a post-hardcore / screamo trio from Belgrade, Serbia, active in the mid-2010s. They released their demo EP in August 2014, followed a year later by two EPs: Worst Coast and Undermost. Around the time of these releases, they played a show with Birds in Row (Deathwish Inc.) and Eagleshaslanded at Klub Fest. While Birds in Row were stopped at the Serbian border and couldn’t perform, the two opening bands continued with the show. They also appeared in numerous comps such as Miss the Stars’ third sample.

In that same year, Muerto Rico would expand into a quartet before announcing their breakup in 2019. Members have since gone on to play in bands such as Cannot, Young Husbands, and Yobo.

The band’s earlier material leaned heavily into rawness, often sounding unfinished and rough around the edges. Undermost, however, stands apart as their most focused and fully realized release. Across four tracks, Muerto Rico sharpen their sound into something heavier, darker, and more deliberate, with clear nods to Loma Prieta–style intensity.

Rather than relying on sheer chaos, the EP balances emotional volatility with structure, making it their most impactful statement.

Muerto Rico je bio post-hardcore / screamo trio iz Beograda, aktivan sredinom 2010-ih. Demo EP objavili su u avgustu 2014. godine, a godinu dana kasnije izlaze dva EP-ja: Worst Coast i Undermost. U tom periodu svirali su koncert sa bendovima Birds in Row (Deathwish Inc.) i Eagleshaslanded u Klubu Fest. Iako su Birds in Row bili zaustavljeni na srpskoj granici i nisu mogli da nastupe, dva predgrupna benda su ipak odsvirala koncert.

U toj godini su se Muerto Rico proširili u kvartet, a 2019. godine bend zvanično objavljuje razlaz. Članovi su kasnije nastavili da sviraju u bendovima kao što su Cannot, Young Husbands i Yobo.

Rani materijal benda oslanjao se na sirovost i često je zvučao nedovršeno, grubo i neispeglano. Undermost se, međutim, izdvaja kao njihovo najfokusiranije i najzrelije izdanje. Kroz četiri pesme, Muerto Rico oblikuju zvuk koji je teži, mračniji i promišljeniji, sa jasnim uplivima intenziteta u stilu benda Loma Prieta.

Umesto oslanjanja na čisti haos, EP pronalazi balans između emotivne nestabilnosti i strukture, čineći Undermost njihovom najsnažnijom i najubedljivijom izjavom.
